How to Keep Your Kids Safe While Riding

Keeping your kids safe is your number one priority as a parent. Harley Davidson has worked tirelessly to ensure their kid’s bike line is safe for kids, but parents should still practice caution. It is essential to teach your children that these bikes are not toys. Consider the following tips to ensure bike safety for kids of all ages.

  • Your child must always wear a well-fitting and protective bike helmet, with no exceptions to this rule.
  • Teach your child the road rules, and never allow them to ride their bikes in the street, even if you live in a low-traffic neighborhood.
  • Keep your child’s bike in good working order. Check the tire pressure and brake system often.
  • Choose a bike that is the right size for the child. Never buy a bike they will grow into.
  • Dress your child in brightly-colored clothing with reflective strips for low-light conditions.
  • Teach your child to keep both hands on the handlebars at all times.
  • Never allow your child to ride a bike while wearing headphones or earbuds. They need to hear the warning signs of traffic.
  • Have your child wear sturdy shoes with solid outsoles. Avoid riding a bike barefooted or with open-toed shoes.
  • Avoid allowing your child to wear loose-fitting clothing while riding a bike.

Children need supervision while riding their bikes. We highly recommend teaching your child hand signals because they will use them throughout their lives and when they begin riding their Harleys later in life.

As your child grows older, you can take them on rides into the community. Children under ten should never ride on the road. Always model good biking behavior. Be firm with your children and stick to the rules, or do not let them ride under any circumstances.

Bicycle Helmets Save Lives

Introduce bicycle helmets when your child is riding their first Harley Davidson Tough Trike. A bicycle helmet protects your child against brain injuries that can occur with a fall or accident.

Choose a bike helmet rated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Ensure the helmet sits on the child’s head level. The helmet should not rock back and forth and should remain two finger widths above the child’s eyebrows.

Your Child Can Own a Harley

Harley Davidson lovers unite in excitement over this bike line that even includes a Fisher Price trike for little riders. These electric balance bikes are perfect for kids 5 to 12, depending on the platform and tire size.

If your kid loves your Harley, why not get them their own electric bike version? These bikes are built with safety in mind and keep a low speed so your child learns to ride safely. These biking skills will carry over well when they become adults and own a Harley motorcycle.
